Milly Thimaras

Meet London-born UK Open Mic performer Milly Thimaras:

Milly Thimaras

Hi Milly Thimaras, thanks for joining us! Let’s get into it:

Do you play solo only, or also in a group?

How old are you?

Where were you born?

Where did you grow up?

Kingston Upon Thames

How did that place influence your music? (if at all!)

Well, I love areas of London such as Hackney and Soho and they have had a massive impact on my creative side. I used to sing at Ronnie Scotts before Covid hit but in Southampton, they particularly love blues and guitar music which is something that really inspires my music.

Where are you based now, and why?

Southampton because the rest of my band is there and

What got you into making music in the first place?

I have always been singing but I really started to write when I lost everything. Music was all I had and it truly saved me. I was just no longer afraid to write and create.

What instrument/s do you play?

Singing, Piano

Who would be in your top 10 musical influences, and why?

Hozier, Stevie Nicks, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Birdy, Christina Aguilera, Lana Del Ray. I think all these people are so special in what they do because they all have/had something to say. Genuine artists.

Do you write your own songs?

How many years have you been writing songs for?

What process, or processes, do you often find yourself using when you write songs?

I visualize it like a film in my head and simply write it down to chords.

Why did you get into playing them in the first place?

I love sharing what I do in a safe space with other creatives

What advice would you give new performers who are just starting out playing their first open mics?

Have fun and be respectful when others play.

What’s the hardest thing, for you, about playing open mics?

Being at the wrong ones where people are judgmental.

What’s the most bizarre, or fun, open mic, or gig, you’ve ever played, and why?

Oh gosh, there’s too many, there’s been some divas for sure!

If it’s not already, are you hoping to make music your full-time career?

What do you currently find the hardest and biggest obstacles to moving your music career forward?

Funding it to keep it consistent.

What’s the most exciting project you’re working on at the moment?

I have my own band which is The Milly Thimaras Project but I am also a keys player and backing vocalist/co-writer for a blues artist called Laurence Henderson.

Do you have your own music video, channel or playlist you’d like to share?

Do you have music on streaming? What’s you main streaming channel to send people to?

Where is the main place should people go to find out more about you?

We’re done! Anything else you want to share before we go?

No thanks!
