UK Open Mic

Clare Bucks

Meet UK-born UK Open Mic performer, Clare Bucks:

Clare Bucks

Hi Clare Bucks, thanks for joining us! Let’s get into it:

Do you play solo only, or also in a group?

How old are you?

Where were you born?

Where did you grow up?

How did that place influence your music? (if at all!)

I was exposed to great British performers like Erasure, Duran Duran and Level 42 growing up

Where are you based now, and why?

Still in Essex! It’s my home 🙂

What got you into making music in the first place?

I’ve always loved music and 80s pop especially- I’ve just always wanted to be like my pop idols! And I am constantly called to write stories through song, it’s my favourite creative, cathartic, connective endeavour

What instrument/s do you play?

Singing, Piano, Bass, Music Producer

Who would be in your top 10 musical influences, and why?

Erasure, Bjork, Grimes, Level 42, Go West, they make great music with amazing melodies and they’re just true artists! Which is what I aspire to be.

Do you write your own songs?

How many years have you been writing songs for?

What process, or processes, do you often find yourself using when you write songs?

Intuition and subconscious inspiration, pretty much always. I feel a feeling, then let it out by making a melody and letting the words come instinctively, or the other way round 🙂

Why did you get into playing them in the first place?

A date was playing at an open mic and invited me. They asked if I wanted to perform too and I was so scared that I knew I had to do it!

If it’s not already, are you hoping to make music your full-time career?

Do you have your own music video, channel or playlist you’d like to share?

Do you have music on streaming? What’s you main streaming channel to send people to?

Where is the main place should people go to find out more about you?

What other sites/profiles should people go to to find out more about you?

We’re done! Anything else you want to share before we go?

Find me on Insta @clarebucksmusic – also thank you UK Open Mic for being so welcoming and kind and taking lots of the fear out of performing live!
