Hi Mark Glentworth, thanks for joining us! Let’s get into it:

Do you play solo only, or also in a group?

Solo

How old are you?

Where were you born?

Lincolnshire

Where did you grow up?

Lincolnshire

How did that place influence your music? (if at all!)

I was the youngest student to enter the Royal Northern BBC College of Music back in the day

Where are you based now, and why?

I have travelled the world with my career, but London’s my home

What got you into making music in the first place?

Music did!!

What instrument/s do you play?

Singing, Piano, Drums, Percussion, Music Producer

Who would be in your top 10 musical influences, and why?

Stravinsky….just listen the Rite of spring..Beethoven next then the vibes player Gary Burton, Stevie Wonder , Puccini etc etc etc

Do you write your own songs?

Yes

How many years have you been writing songs for?

A lot

What process, or processes, do you often find yourself using when you write songs?

I’m famous for writing the most performed recorded and studied solo percussion piece called “Blues for Gilbert”. I have written two operas many many songs some of which are in my award winning solo musical SEVEN and a half YEARS

Why did you get into playing open mic nights in the first place?

For the practice of live work ..in my one man show I sing 13 songs act play piano and percussion…so early open mic work helped

What advice would you give new performers who are just starting out playing their first open mics?

Work at your craft stop “dropping ” your songs which are not good enough yet or your singing.. WORK at your Kraft

What’s the hardest thing, for you, about playing open mics?

People talking…that’s why I stopped

What’s the most bizarre, or fun, open mic, or gig, you’ve ever played, and why?

Er dunno

If it’s not already, are you hoping to make music your full-time career?

Yes

What do you currently find the hardest and biggest obstacles to moving your music career forward?

Filing theatres for my live show is very hard with new work
