Chloé Hogan

Meet Orlando, Florida-born UK Open Mic performer, Chloé Hogan:

Chloé Hogan

Hi Chloé Hogan, thanks for joining us! Let’s get into it:

Do you play solo only, or also in a group?

Solo

How old are you?

23

Where were you born?

Orlando, Florida

Where did you grow up?

Florida

How did that place influence your music? (if at all!)

Showed me the power of self, relationship with Gid and people and the importance of timing

Where are you based now, and why?

NYC pursuing my dream of being an artist and taking on the challenge that the city brings

What got you into making music in the first place?

Church. Gospel music is so connective to the soul and spiritual realm. I learned how to first and best express myself and my essence through music. Music is Just the best way for me to communicate Soul to soul.

What instrument/s do you play?

Singing, Piano

Who would be in your top 10 musical influences, and why?

STEVIE WONDER, ALICIA KEYS, QUINCY JONES, WHITNEY HOUSTON, NAT KING COLE, JONI MITCHELL, ELLA FITZGERALD, LADY GAGA, MILEY CYRUS, and PRINCE AND MICHAEL JACKSON. They all communicate with their souls!

Do you write your own songs?

Yes

How many years have you been writing songs for?

13 years

What process, or processes, do you often find yourself using when you write songs?

The melody is like plucking a dandelion out of the air that’s floating by. The words start as murmurs from what feels like the bottommost inner corners of my soul that my brain tries to decipher and process into words or phrases that aid in what the soul has already learned.!the chords and instrumentation flood in first sometimes like I’m being transported to another world where the song is from.

Why did you get into playing them in the first place?

Jump out of your comfort zone.

What advice would you give new performers who are just starting out playing their first open mics?

Be you. Breathe. Share. You are the only vessel to deliver the sound that is only yours and could bless someone or many people.

What’s the hardest thing, for you, about playing open mics?

Sometimes butterflies! Being scared to share my self and be open

What’s the most bizarre, or fun, open mic, or gig, you’ve ever played, and why?

I randomly walked into coffee bookshop because a bunch of people were gathered around inside. I then was asked if I’d like to share anything. Scared, I replied no, but then promised I’d come back next time and try again. Came back the next week, shared with a million butterflies in my stomach, felt the release of sharing and it was very well received and now those same individuals who encouraged me to share are now some of my very best friends.

If it’s not already, are you hoping to make music your full-time career?

Yes

What do you currently find the hardest and biggest obstacles to moving your music career forward?

Marketing and recording costs

What’s the one truth about you that people often find surprising?

I don’t like candy or chocolate all that much! Never have haha

My first EP that the name is still a secret 🙂
